| Naturally, there was no way the world’s single largest hop growing area covering a total surface of 17,800 hectares could possibly be limited to a single administrative district: the Green Gold is simply too important to all of Bavaria. And no matter if its official title is "Holledau" or "Hallertau" – the area remains the same.
Hop poles towering up to seven metres, interspersed by billowing barley and wheat fields and crisscrossed by crystal-clear brooks and rivulets. It’s pretty easy to see: here is where the most essential and indispensable basic components for beermaking are harvested. Many of the more than 5,000 German beer brands have a little piece of Hallertau in them. That way, our region has already touched many people in the most literal physical sense. The counties of Kelheim, Pfaffenhofen a.d.Ilm, Freising and Landshut are welcoming you on a virtual walk through Hallertau.
